343 Industries shares a few more details about its plans for the final version of Halo 5: Guardians that’s set to appear this fall, confirming that it wants to bring forth a more expansive Forge mode that gives players more tools to create their own levels, and that it doesn't want to bring back any classic Halo maps in the multiplayer.

Halo 5: Guardians is eagerly awaited by tens of millions of franchise fans from around the world, many of whom are now engaged in the game's multiplayer beta stage that's available on the Xbox One for those who got last year's Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

While players can experience quite a few maps and modes in the test phase, many are wondering what developer 343 plans for the final version of the first-person shooter.

The Forge mode will have more options

While talking with IGN, 343's Josh Holmes confirms that the Forge mode, which allows players to create their own custom maps for the multiplayer experience, will be improved in Halo 5.

According to the developer, the team made quite a few tweaks and added plenty of options in terms of the actual building tools. 343 is also going to offer a few maps built in the Forge, so that players can learn from them, and it's quite eager to see what fans can do with the system.

"We will likely create and release a handful of maps," he says. "But we’re most excited to see what the community is able to create when they get their hands on Forge. We have made a number of improvements to usability as well as providing multiple palettes, terrain sheets, and lighting set-ups for Forgers to build with."

No plans for remastered maps

Holmes also shot down the notion of having classic maps from previous Halo games return in Guardians with a fresh coat of paint and better textures. According to the developer, there will, however, be maps that are inspired from fan favorites in some way or form.

"We have no plans to remake any other classic Halo maps at this time, though we are continually inspired by the legacy of great maps that have appeared throughout franchise history," he adds.

As such, it's going to be interesting to see how 343 manages to honor previous maps from the franchise in Halo 5, once it launches this fall on Xbox One.
