Developer 343 Industries has just unleashed a brand new update for the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta stage, bringing forth new maps, modes, and weapons for players to enjoy as they continue testing the new experience on the Xbox One console.

This week was marked by the debut of 2015 all around the world, but Halo fans have extra reasons to celebrate, as the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta has just been made available on the Xbox One for all those who bought the Halo: The Master Chief Collection on the same platform.

Millions of people have jumped into the experience, and so far, 343 Industries has managed to avoid any major issues with it, unlike the woeful first few weeks that followed the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Now, as we head into the weekend, 343 Industries confirms on the official website that that the second week update for the beta should be live right now.

New modes and maps are included

First up, the studio reveals that there's a brand new game type called Breakout available for players to enjoy in the beta. The mode is based on rounds and gives your Spartan a single life in each of them. The first team to take five rounds wins the match. You can experience the new mode on two maps: Crossfire, and a variant of it, Trench.

The Slayer playlist remains the same, more or less, but now all players begin with a Battle Rifle in these matches. There are also two new maps for it as well, in the form of Regret and Eden. Regret is a remix of Truth, from the first round of the beta, while Eden remixes Empire.

New weapons are also available

Besides the new maps and the fresh modes, the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta also features two impressive weapons, in the form of the all-new Hydra MLRS, which is available on the Regret map in the Slayer playlist. Halo 4 fans should also notice the return of the Light Rifle, which has been modified slightly from its appearance in the previous title.
