A new Hunt the Truth update for Halo 5: Guardians has been introduced by the development team at 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft, exploring the origins of Master Chief and the early childhood that he lived in Elysium City.

The production values for the audio-only episode are very high and there's a lot of flavor for those who want to explore the universe of the series, with multiple characters offering their take on how the character grew up and how his athleticism was always off the charts, even moving towards violence at times.

There are also details about the Covenant and about the conflict between the UNSC and the insurrectionists.

The major revelation from the episode is that John was supposed to have died when he was six years old, which means that someone else was then picked up and trained and then pretty much saved the entire galaxy.

A new button on the Hunt the Truth site is also allowing gamers to share their own theories about the way the new information will shape how gamers see Master Chief.

The entire promotional campaign is based on the idea that there's more to the central character of the entire Halo series than gamers currently know, and that he might actually be a traitor with an unknown agenda.

Halo 5: Guardians has not revealed its core story

At the moment, the development team at 343 Industries and Microsoft are not willing to offer any clear details about the story that will be at the center of the campaign for the new Halo experience.

Hunt the Truth is designed to tease gamers and to get them involved, and a bigger ARG built around it might be revealed in the coming months.

So far, the biggest revelations have been offered by the actor playing Agent Locke, introduced in Halo: Nightfall, who has said that he will be heavily involved in the story and that he will interact directly with Master Chief, who will be presented in a new light.

Halo 5: Guardians is set to be launched at some point in the fall, presumably November, and will only be offered on the Xbox One.

343 Industries is also working hard to use data extracted during the beta period in order to make sure that the multiplayer is balanced.
