Gamers can take part in real-world and Xbox Live events

Video game publisher Microsoft and Virgin Gaming announce that they are organizing a new Halo 4 Global Championship, designed to get the best players of the shooter to battle each other in a series of real-world and online tournaments.

The total prize pool for the competition is worth 500,000 dollars (350,000 Euro) and the grand prize is huge at 200,000 dollars (140,000 Euro).

The Halo 4 Global Championship will debut at the Rooster Teeth Expo on July 5 and real-world events will also take place at the gamescom trade show in Cologne, Germany, starting with August 21.

On Xbox Live, the battle starts on July 15.

Each event will see six finalists selected and they will join 20 players from online qualifiers in a grand final battle that will take place in Seattle on August 31 and September 1.
