The development team at Certain Affinity has announced that it is working on the Forge mode for Halo 4, which will allow players to edit content linked to the game and deliver their own maps.

The development studio is based in Austin and has previous experience working on a number of Halo map packages in the past.

The new Forge mode will allow gamers to lock down objects, and a new system of highlights and tags will make it easier to keep track of content as it is moved around.

There’s a new duplication mechanic to quickly populate the world and magnetization will allow those working with Forge to connect elements to one another.

The mode also introduces a new lightning system designed to make it easier to create good-looking levels that also include strategically placed shadow areas.

The new Player Trait Zones will allow those creating levels to place modifiers on the way players move through a level and a new Grav Volume option makes it easier to alter and reverse gravity.

Certain Affinity is working closely with 343 Industries, which is creating the core Halo 4 experience, in order to make sure that all the elements in the Forge are easy to use.

It’s not yet clear how the game will allow players to share and rate the maps that are created by the community.

Certain Affinity has worked on an original project, Crimson Alliance, which was launched on the Xbox Live Arcade service during 2011.

Halo 4 is the first game in the series not developed by Bungie and will once again focus on the character of Master Chief as he explores and battles a new alien threat.

Halo 4 is set to arrive exclusively on the Xbox 360 home console from Microsoft and will be available on November 6.
