The new characters were initially created to fight the Flood

The development team at 343 Industries has offered more information on the Prometheans, a new type of enemy that gamers will face during the upcoming Halo 4, via the new issue of Game Informer.

The Prometheans are subdivided into three types of enemies: the Knights, who are the main fighting force; the Watchers, who are able to deliver support abilities and can shield units or respawn warriors and the Crawlers, who are lesser units used to allow the Knights to get into position or strike without being seen.

343 Industries says that the Prometheans were created by the Forerunner civilization in order to fight the Flood and their weapons and their equipment reflect their original purpose.

The new race uses its three subdivisions to assault the player in a highly tactical manner, using the cannon fodder to draw his fire and his attention before sending in the Knights and the support troops to take him out when he is weakened.

The most powerful of the Knight unit types is called a Battlewagon, which is rare and dangerous, and even the normal representatives of the class are able to take on the player in one-on-one fights and win.

The information offered by 343 Industries also suggests that, at one point during the game, Covenant forces will join the Prometheans and the player, in the combat boots of Master Chief, will have to battle combined forces.

Halo 4 will take place on a new planet that houses surviving Forerunners and the developers have promised tense firefights but also a number of sections where the player will have to focus on exploration.

The game will also include the Spartan Ops cooperative mode, which apparently offers more content than ODST.

Halo 4 will be launched exclusively on the Xbox 360 on November 6 of this year.
