As promised, we continue our pre-Halloween venture into the macabre with yet another bone-chilling gadget, a device that really seems taken out of a horror flick, as it looks like the type of device Dracula or a member of the Addams family might use. Moreover, friends of the occult, this special watch, called the Memento Mori Death Watch, has another feature that makes it even more interesting and eerie: it was actually manufactured almost 200 years ago, in 1810.
But what makes this watch so special? Well, first of all, the fact that
it was designed in the shape of a miniature human skull that comes complete with hinges, the user being able to tell the time by opening up the skull in half from the front. Then, one can't help but admire the exquisite craftsmanship, as the very inventive and imaginative watchmaker who created it has managed to carry out a great job, the watch looking simply great even nowadays.
The Memento Mori Death Watch is manufactured from 18K gold, enamel, and diamonds (yes, those shiny things in the eyes and teeth are actually diamonds) and measures 43 mm x 27 mm x 32 mm. Considering its originality and value (after all, it's made from gold and diamonds), it's actually no wonder that is has a pretty hefty price tag, being sold for $16,000 by the online antiquities' store, Bogoff.com, but if you're into antiques and the macabre, this is really a watch to get.
