Halloween is just around the corner, which means that pumpkins all around the world are finally getting their 15 minutes of fame. Still, it's safe to say that there is one pumpkin that will be talked about long after this celebration is through.

Not to keep you in suspense any longer, the pumpkin that's bound to put all other fruits of this kind to shame and go on to make Halloween history is a mammoth one grown by a man currently living in the town of Middlesborough in the UK.

The pumpkin, pictured next to this article, tips the scale at an impressive 1,025 pounds (approximately 465 kilograms). Just to put things into perspective, it need be said that the fruit is argued to weigh about as much as 5 baby elephants put together do.

A one-of-a-kind pumpkin

As detailed by Mirror, the massive Halloween pumpkin was grown by 50-year-old Mal Carter, who got help from his wife Karen and their two sons, Christopher and Stephen, looking after it.

The family is said to have been growing fruits and vegetables on a lot close to their home in Middlesborough for several years now. However, Mal Carter says that this pumpkin is by far the biggest they have until now harvested.

“I’ve been growing giant pumpkins for years but this is by far the biggest pumpkin I’ve ever grown. All those years of pumpkin growing have finally paid off,” Karen told the press in a recent interview. “It’s the biggest one I’ve ever grown,” added husband Mal.

Just a few days ago, Mal Carter and the rest of his family used a crane and a wagon to carry the pumpkin all the way to the city of York. Here, they entered it in a competition organized as part of the York Maze Halloween Festival.

Not at all surprisingly, the fruit was crowned the absolute biggest Halloween pumpkin, and as a token of appreciation, Mal Carter was handed a £500 (roughly €633/$805) prize, which he'll probably invest in his fruit and veggies business.

A Halloween pumpkin through and through

Once the competition ended and 50-year-old Mal Carter pocketed his prize, a professional 3D artist Christian Russell was given permission to get to work carving the fruit and turning it into a Halloween pumpkin through and through.

As noticeable in the photo below, the artist chose to turn the pumpkin into a scary-looking face with mean eyes and freakishly oversized teeth. The carving is so detailed that the teeth show signs of wear and tear, and the scary face is almost entirely covered in wrinkles.

It is understood that the pumpkin is to remain on display in York until the York Maze Halloween Festival comes to an end this coming Saturday. Simply put, those wishing to see it need only clear their schedule and book a flight to the UK.
