Halliburton, one of the world’s biggest energy service companies, has announced a switch to Apple’s iOS platform for employees, after comparing the iPhone’s benefits to those offered by RIM (BlackBerry devices) and the Google-developed OS, Android.

The company plans to phase out thousands of employee BlackBerry phones and switch to iPhone, the company said.

The Houston, Texas-based firm sent an email to employees this month (in the form of an internal letter that obviously got leaked), saying: "Over the next year, we will begin expanding the use of our mobile technology by transitioning from the BlackBerry (RIM) platform that we currently use to smartphone technology via the iPhone."

According to reports, the move comes after "significant research" into platforms including iOS and Android, leading Halliburton to determine that "the iOS platform offered the best capabilities, controls and security for application development."
