14 DAY TRIAL // Chances are Olivier Martinez popped the question to his girlfriend Halle Berry either over Christmas or on the night between the years. Either way, she's rocking a new ring on her finger – and it's sending the rumor mill into overdrive.
The two have been dating for a while and, despite some inevitable breakup rumors that usually plague celebrities of their caliber, they seem to be getting stronger by the time.
Just over the holidays, Olivier was photographed bonding at the beach with Nahla, Halle's daughter with model Gabriel Aubry.
At about the same time, Halle was pictured with a new ring on her engagement finger, getting a lot of people talking about how they might be getting ready to walk down the aisle, as E! Online also notes.
“It seemed to be the case after photogs caught shots of Halle Berry accessorized with a certain piece of jewelry on a very specific finger. So, what's the deal?” the e-zine asks.
“We know the saying, 'third time's a charm,' and clearly there are plenty of Hollywood couples who have proven this to be true when it comes to marriage, but in Halle's case... we can't be too sure,” E! adds.
The celebrity publication makes a very good point: Halle has long said that she doesn't want to tie the knot again, having already been married twice.
In an interview dating August 2009, from back in the day when she and Aubry were still a couple, she was asked if marriage was on the table for them – and she made a point of saying a piece of paper like the marriage certificate meant nothing to her.
As we also noted at the time, Berry stressed that she, Gabriel and their daughter were happy as a family without feeling any need for the extra piece of paper.
Having been done that road twice – with both times ending in heartbreak for her –, she no longer believed marriage was a guarantee for everlasting love.
“Gabriel and I don’t look at our relationship in terms of for ever, we look at it as right here today. And today means being the best people we can be, the best parents we can be. It’s wonderful, but neither one of us feels the need to attach ourselves to each other for life – because it may not be that,” she said.
As it turns out, their romance didn't last for ever.
