The proportion of SSD-equipped UltraBooks was 86% in the first quarter

Not being able to reach the desired price targets, notebook manufacturers will reportedly give up using SSDs in half of their UltraBooks. This is not really good news for either the users or for Intel, but it represents the reality that Intel’s platforms and CPUs are overpriced.

Like we’ve written before, the price of a mobile solution is currently a significant element that decides if one solution will sell well or not. It is likely to be more important than the usual and logical performance/dollar ratio.

We are living during a prolonged economic downturn and pricing is more important than features.

The lower SSD sales will probably mean less profit for Intel, as they were also offering SSD bundles to OEMs, but it will also mean less sales for SSD companies like OCZ, Crucial, or Kingston.
