Windows 8 continues to be Microsoft’s big bet in the IT industry these days, but it’s another OS version that continues to top all charts worldwide.

Statistics provided by market researcher StatCounter indicate that Windows 7 has a market share of 52.74 percent in 2013, which makes it the number one operating system worldwide this year.

Windows XP obviously comes second with a market share of 21.92 percent, while Mac OS X (which includes all versions currently available for consumers) is still powering 7.29 percent of computers.

The battle between Windows 8 and Windows Vista continues, but the latter has received more points, as its market share this year reached 5.78 percent. The newly-launched and soon-to-be-updated Windows 8, however, comes pretty close, with an overall share of 5.17 percent.
