The natural look is back in

Hair is said to be extremely important for a woman, and with good reason while we’re at it. A mane that looks all sorts of tangled or unkempt is anything but good on anyone, let alone a lady. On the same note, colors that were once all the rage, such as platinum blonde, fiery red or blue black, are slowly being pushed aside in favor of more delicate-looking shades, such as browns and dark blondes, as the latest tendencies for hair for spring 2009 call for a return to the natural, as stylists tell the Daily Mail.

For starters, spring 2009 will bring back long and medium hairstyles, which place a lot of emphasis on femininity by softening the facial features. However, as British hairstylist Michael van Clarke explains, great-looking hair, no matter its length, depends entirely on the cut, which is why he recommends that all women think of making a change about their appearance to request a cut on dry hair. While this might not be common practice, it allows the stylist to see exactly how the hair behaves when cut in a certain way, as well as to appreciate if it flatters a face or not.

Next up on the list of hair tendencies is color. As already noted above, natural-looking hair is coming back in full force, which means that all shades of red, orange and blonde will no longer be as hip as they have been until now. Super-natural highlights are a must-have for the season, since they allow women to stand out from the crowd in a very subtle way. Hot hair this spring means hair that looks great in a way that does not scream “look at me.” It’s the opposite of everything we’ve seen so far, “anti-bling” and seemingly as conventional as it gets. A naturally-dyed mane also has a financial advantage, as stylists point out, in that it allows a bit of root regrowth without any problem whatsoever.

As far as hair styling is concerned, the tendencies for this season include the use of mousse and demi-perms, both with the end of getting a great-looking ‘do without making the effort that goes into achieving it too obvious. Mousse is perfect for styling the hair even at home and it can barely be noticed once the hair is dry, which is why more and more stylists are starting to use it heavily again. As for the demi-perms, they are quite the opposite of what we got back in the ‘80s, since they lift the roots and create soft, wavy curls that frame the face in the most delicate way.

Obviously, spring 2009 will be all about making the most with very little. This upcoming season will shift the focus from showing off to being subtly beautiful, stylists share.
