Hackers part of the Ay Yıldız collective have compromised the official website of Haines City, Polk County, Florida. On Sunday, the site’s visitors were redirected to a Turkish gaming site.

According to NewsChief, Haines City representatives have revealed that the site is not hosted on the city’s servers, so the IT staff could not precisely determine what vulnerability allowed the Turkish hackers to gain unauthorized access.

The fact that the website is in the process of being redesigned and reorganized, and the fact that it has lacked a service provider have most likely made the hackers’ job a lot easier.

The incident determined officials to ensure that the new site, about to be launched these days, would benefit from proper security measures.

“In the event that something happens in the future, we'll be prepared for it,” said Assistant City Manager, Jonathan Evans.
