14 DAY TRIAL // Anonymous-affiliated hacktivists have launched attacks against several Romanian websites in protest against the country’s initiatives to get rid of stray dogs.
Romania has had some controversial attempts to address its stray dog problem. Many of the country’s initiatives have sparked controversy because they involve euthanizing unwanted animals.
As part of the campaign dubbed OpFunKill, initialized in response to the black rhino hunting auction, the hackers are now targeting Romanian websites.
“OpFunKill, an Animal Rights group affiliated with Anonymous has declared war on the Romanian State Officials who’ve continued to brazenly ignore public pleas and evidence offered by experts that animal control can only be accomplished by means of spay/neutering and abandon prevention programs,” the hackers behind OpFunKill noted.
Today, they’ve launched distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks against the websites of the Ministry of Economy (minind.ro) and the Ministry of European Funds (fonduri-ue.ro). Both sites suffered downtimes as a result of the attack.
In the past days, hacktivists disrupted the site of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ansvsa.ro). Others have leaked data obtained from the systems of various Romanian businesses.
