New type of advertising?

Supposing you want to advertise a product on the Internet, you have two options: you do it legally using partnerships and deals or illegally. The second one is not the smartest move but you can do it without any cost. Most users who want to advertise something on the web choose to do it by spamming other consumers through unsolicited email messages. At this time, you're able to buy anything through spam emails including watches, drugs or clothes. But it seems like a new way of advertising is about to debut. Reuters today reported that some people created a website which copies a page owned by the Chinese government in order to convince the people to buy a diabetes medication.

The entire procedure is pretty simple: they first copied the site and published it on a new domain. Because it looks just like the Chinese Food and Drug Administration's genuine page, some of the visitors might be tempted to believe it is the real one. The fraudsters used the webpage to advertise their drugs and even placed a link to a fake approved medications list which also included their own product.

"This site is definitely not for real. These lawbreakers have got some balls!" a Chinese official said according to Reuters. "The fake site can be accessed from another purporting to be from a research institute promoting the miracle benefits of a new diabetes drug. But not only is that site a fake, the drug is too, the report added," the same source continued.

Although it's bad intended, let's admit it is a pretty smart move from the fraudsters because some of the users might believe the drug is really promoted by the government. The entire spoofing scheme is quite similar to a phishing attack so you could avoid visiting fake websites by analyzing the website's URL before clicking on it.
