In September 2011, around $6,000 (4,200 EUR) were stolen from a SunTrust bank account belonging to Deer Chase Elementary School, in Richmond County, by a hacker group allegedly based in Florida.

It’s suspected that the same group illegally accessed the school’s PTA fund in 2010, making away with around $8,000 (5,600 EUR) that were utilized to pay phone bills and child support payments, reports The Augusta Chronicle.

The bank refunded the money and a spokesperson revealed that they were looking into the matter, but failed to comment on how exactly the breach took place.

While it’s strange that the same group hit the school’s accounts twice, bank representatives claim that since the group wasn’t caught, they may have believed they can pull it off a second time.

Banks should really buff up their security measures these days since almost each day we witness how they are proven to be vulnerable by hacktivists and incompetent employees.
