It's the same code as the one leaked by another group back in January 2012

An Anonymous-affiliated hacker called Par_AnoIA claims to have leaked the source code of Symantec’s Norton Utilities 2006. However, after analyzing the files, the company has revealed that it’s the same as the one published back in January 2012.

Symantec has had a lot of problems this year because of source code stolen back in 2006. At the end of January, the security firm recommended users to disable their pcAnywhere products in order to prevent potential cyberattacks.

Then, in February, a group of cybercriminals attempted to blackmail the company, asking for $50,000 (35,000 EUR) in exchange for stolen source code.

In May, another collective threatened to publish some valuable information.

“We actually disclosed the top secret virus protection technique of Symantec Norton 2012 and we will be publishing it on Monday unless we had a little t$lk, the source code will also be published on several paste websites including this site,” the hackers said at the time.

Now, it seems that similar to the Philips data leak, hackers are re-publishing the information and taking credit for stealing it.
