The official website of Philippines’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources (denr.gov.ph) was breached on Saturday, allegedly by a group of Turkish hackers.

The motives behind this hack are unknown, especially since the attackers only posted a “Sorry Admin, Hacked!” message on the affected website.

According to reports from ABS-CBNnews, the site was restored shortly after being defaced, but at the time of writing it appears to have been taken offline.

In related news, the country’s presidency is urging hacktivists to stop targeting government websites, especially the ones that handle social welfare, the weather service, and tsunami and earthquake monitoring services.

The president's spokesperson stated that they were aware of the opposition against the new controversial cybercrime law, but highlighted the fact that protest should not involve hacking websites.
