Back in March, we learned that Guccifer – the notorious hacker that has hijacked the online accounts of several celebrities and officials – compromised the Facebook account of former US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Now, the hacker has returned, publishing several emails and photos exchanged between Powell and Corina Cretu, a Romanian diplomat and politician, member of the European Parliament.

Guccifer has hijacked the Facebook account of a retired general. He used the access to the account to publish a link to a Google Drive page containing the correspondence between Cretu and Powell on the former Secretary of State’s Facebook timeline.

In addition, the same link, along with pictures of Cretu, have been published on the retired general’s Facebook page.

The emails leaked by the hacker hint at an extramarital affair between Cretu and Powell. In the messages stolen by the hacker, some of which from the Romanian diplomat’s Yahoo account, Cretu calls Powell the love of her life.

However, in a statement to The Smoking Gun, Powell denied having an affair with the politician.

“I have known Ms. Corina Cretu for approximately ten years. We met when I was the Secretary of State and she was an assistant to the President of Romania. We occasionally attended the same diplomatic and international meetings,” Powell stated.

“After I left the Department of State in January 2005 we stayed in touch via email. I frequently gave her advice on the prospects of finding a position with the UN and other international organizations,” he added.

“Over time the emails became of a very personal nature, but did not result in an affair. Those type of emails ended a few years ago. There was no affair then and there is not one now.”

In one of the messages leaked by Guccifer, Powell warns the diplomat that his email account has been hacked and asks her to delete all the correspondence between them. He explained for The Smoking Gun that it was the obvious thing to do in light of the hack.
