A hacker that goes by the online handle of c0mrade claims to have gained access to 110,000 records containing the personal details of citizens from Clarksville, Tennessee.

Cyber War News informs that the data leak appears to be legitimate. However, the hacker only published a small sample to prove his claims.

“We don’t want to cause an economical blow. With that being said, these records won’t be trafficking on the Internet nor will you see it being sold on the Black Market as we don’t want the risk the safety of innocent children and hard-working Adults. We will provide proof, though,” c0mrade said.

The data he has allegedly obtained consists of social security numbers, names, phone numbers, dates of birth and other details.

Update. New details have emerged. Shortly after the article was published, the hacker collective SpexSec, which c0mrade is part of, has taken credit for the breach.

“Clarksville, Tennessee was primarily targeted due to their belligerence. To be clear here, We gave Tennessee a chance to comply and they didn't, therefore, this is the consequence they'll have to swallow,” the hackers wrote.

They also claimed to have leaked a number of 14,525 records, but the links to the data dump have been removed a few hours later.

According to ClarksvilleNow.com, the breach came to light on Sunday when someone made a call to 911 and alerted the Clarksville Police Department.

The victim in this case appears to be the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS), which has currently shut down its website while the incident is being investigated. A law enforcement investigation is also ongoing.

The Leaf Chronicle reports that the school system's representatives deny being contacted by the hackers before the incident.
