He was related to the NDFCU scam

The authorities have arrested Francisc Wonerth after he was caught driving in a stolen car. They were not after him anyway, it was just a routine control. Thing is, the driver was also behind the "Notre Dame Federal Credit Union phish-n-fraud scam" (quite a mouthful). That was just pure luck for the Police to nab him - I don't think a hacker was ever caught so fast!

He was driving a black Mercedes-Benz (can't say the guy was lacking style) when the Police pulled him over and not only did they find out that the car was reported as stolen in 2006, but they also found 18 American Express gift cards with credit union members' personal information, as the Southern Bend Tribune informs. Now, that led to the fact this is the person behind the NDFCU scam.

It was just a normal, everyday Internet scam, targeting bank customers. It is believed that he hacked the initial bank site and made it transmitting messages to different customers accessing it and making them click on various links. After that, they would get their data phished. And even if he didn't hack the bank site, it's still a good thing that an arrest has been made in this case. Since he has those cards there are two possibilities, either he IS the hacker, either he bought them from the hacker. So this arrest is going to shine some light upon this case, if not solving it!

In any case, the NDFCU's site is safe to access now, as the hacker's scam no longer plagues it. And let me give you a piece of advice - when you go on a site and you click on a link and then you get a prompt to insert some data, please take a good look at the URL. You might not be on the same site, a fact which means that if you enter your data, it's going to get phished, so always be careful!
