The bank account of the city of Arlington, Texas, was targeted at the end of February by a hacker who attempted to steal $1.8 million (1.35 million EUR).

According to Star Telegram, the money was recovered because the internal audit controls used by the financial institution flagged the transfers as being fraudulent.

Since there is an ongoing investigation in which the FBI may be taking part, city officials can’t reveal many details, but they state that after the incident took place, additional security measures were implemented.

In the meantime, Arlington representatives claim that not a “penny” was lost.

“I'm confident that our police force and whatever agencies may be involved are aggressively seeking to thwart the people who try to do these kinds of things. Maybe we have the best protection in the world, but it happened anyway,” councilman Jimmy Bennett said.
