At least for its European users

Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC is reportedly gearing up for the release of the mush expected Android 2.2 Froyo update for is devices on the European market. Mark Moons, HTC Benelux Director, has just tweeted that HTC is on track to start the deployment as soon as today, though it seems that not all things might be in order for the early roll-out.

However, while Moons's tweet might have emerged sooner than it should have, it seems that the leading smartphone designer has already confirmed that it is almost ready to start pushing out the Android 2.2 Froyo update to its users. Whether today or one of the following days, the owners of a HTC Desire, Legend or Nexus One should patiently wait for the solution to arrive.

For what it's worth, it seems that HTC might have finally started to move a little faster than before with the software updates for its Android-based mobile phones. The company delayed the release of a platform upgrade for last year's Hero, which received a boost from the Android 1.5 OS only last month, but it seems that history won't repeat itself, with this year's Android devices, all of which arrived with Android 2.1 on board right from the start.

Of course, nothing is certain for the time being, at least not until the handset vendor makes a formal announcement of the matter. Even so, there are great chances that something might go wrong during the final testing, and the release of Android 2.2 for HTC Desire, Legend or Nexus One around Europe would get delayed for a few weeks more. It happened before with other devices, so it might happen again.

All in all, we can only hope that HTC Europe director Mark Moons' tweet (via Engadget) was not too early, and that HTC would indeed be able to push the Froyo update over the air starting with this week, or, in the worst case scenario, starting with the next one. In the end, Google already delivered the solution to Nexus One users in the US, and Vodafone announced it would send it to its users too.
