We recently reported the launch of Toshiba TG01, which will come with an impressive 4.1-inch WVGA display as well as with an ultra-thin design. Even so, the most attractive feature of the handset is the fact that it includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, which comes along with 1GHz of CPU power.

According to the news on the web, the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, which has been developed as a highly power-efficient platform for handset devices, will also be used by the Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC for some future handsets that are expected to be released in the second quarter of this year.

For the time being, there are no specific pieces of information regarding the operating system of the devices, so they could feature either Windows Mobile or Android, as these are the platform options HTC usually goes for. But, since DigiTimes talks of such a close release, we should be able to learn more on the phone maker's plans in the near future.

Nevertheless, the one thing that is certain is that the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform is able to deliver a lot of power to the handsets it will be included with, so those seeking such features will soon have one more reason to rejoice. At the same time, we should notice that HTC has also entered a partnership with chip maker Intel for the development of Atom-based mobile devices, and we should see the phone maker launch such handsets after the Snapdragon-based ones.

HTC and Toshiba are not the only mobile phone makers that partnered with Qualcomm for the development of mobile computing devices based on the Snapdragon solution. The list of such companies also includes Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Acer, Asustek Computer, Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron, Inventec and Foxconn International Holdings (FIH).
