The event will be held in Beijing, China, and not overseas

Back when HTC introduced the One M9 flagship smartphone at MWC 2015, we were expecting the Taiwanese device maker to also roll out the rumored One M9+, but the model never showed up. That’s probably because HTC wasn't yet ready to present the device.

However, the smartphone constantly leaked online for the past few weeks, suggesting the launch was pretty imminent. Well, today we get word that HTC has started sending out invites to a new official event scheduled for April 8, during which we are finally going to see the One M9+ debut.

HTC One M9+ coming next month

Since the One M9+ has been omnipresent in the rumor mill as of late, we’re pretty familiar with the specifications the phone should bring to the table. A few days ago, we actually saw a mockup of the device pitted against the current One M9.

The current hearsay agrees that the new phone should arrive with a display that’s going to be a tad larger than the one on the One M9. The newcomer is poised to make an appearance with a 5.2-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution (QHD), which is good news for those who were disappointed that the One M9 only offered 1080p resolution.

It appears the phone will run an octa-core MediaTek MT6795T processor (at least the model for the Asian market will), but there’s a chance the international version will ship out with a Snapdragon 810 under the hood.

The phone will be taking advantage of 3GB of RAM (not 4GB here, sorry) plus 32GB of internal storage. Naturally, Android 5.0 Lollipop will be the default operating system du-jour with Sense 7.0 plastered on top.

The invite teases the back of the device which distinctively shows what appears to be a dual-camera setup looking quite identical to what the One M8 offered.

HTC One M9+ offers an iPhone-like fingerprint scanner

Word on the street also reveals that the HTC One M9+ is expected to be one of the first phones coming out of the company to feature a fingerprint scanner hidden in the home key below the display, in the vein of the Samsung Galaxy S flagships and Apple iPhone devices.

The event is scheduled to take place in Beijing, which could be a strong indication that the phone is actually targeted to the Asian market and won’t make it out internationally, which would be a real shame.
