A new Android-based mobile phone is now available for purchase on the airwaves of wireless carrier Telstra in Australia, namely HTC Wildfire S.

The new device comes as the successor of last year's quite popular HTC Wildfire, and offers great capabilities in an affordable form factor.

This is the third Android-based mobile phone that HTC launched this year and which landed on shelves at the wireless carrier. The HTC Sensation and Desire S are the other two.

At Telstra, the handset was made available for purchase for $0 upfront on the wireless carrier's $59 Freedom Connect plan for a 24-month period (a minimum total cost of $1416).

However, those who would like to purchase it free of contract will also be able to do so, while having to pay $360 for it.

Sporting a 3.2” capacitive touchscreen display, the new mobile phone arrives on the market with a 600MHz application processor.

The new mobile phone also comes with a microSD memory card slot, which offers users the possibility to add up to 32GB of additional storage space into the mix.

On the back, it was packed with a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, flash and support for video recording.

The HTC Wildfire S also offers support for 3G networks, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, and a built-in GPS receiver.

The features list of this smartphone also includes:

- Full Page Mobile Internet Browsing & Enhanced Navigation Experience - Digital compass, G-sensor. Proximity Sensor & Ambient light sensor - Access to Android Market to download applications.

Featuring a small and compact design, the smartphone also provides access to a wide range of Google Mobile services, including Search, Gmail, YouTube, and more.

It is based on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, with the HTC Sense user interface loaded on top of it.
