HTC Touch Diamond Looks Great

- Official images unveiled

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

HTC Touch Diamond (or simply HTC Diamond), one of the newest high-end devices produced by HTC, is now pictured in what seem to be its official images, which come after previously-leaked unofficial shots and details were spotted on the Web.

The Italian website Newsmobile has some high-res images of the Diamond and it says that these come from HTC and are official. We have no reason to think this is not true, although the images don't depict a real device, but only a rendering of it.

HTC Touch Diamond looks really nice in the new, supposedly-official images, unveiling a simple and elegant aspect and a diamond pattern on the back case, bringing in mind the design Nokia used for its Prism phones. Aside from that, the handset looks like T-Mobile's MDA Compact IV handset, which was spotted several months ago, and it's said that the two are actually one and the same.

What's a bit confusing is that the images from Newsmobile show the back of the new HTC to be diamond-shaped, while the older ones, with T-Mobile's handset, present a normal-looking back case. This might be explained by the fact that T-Mobile probably wanted a slightly changed design on its own-branded Diamond. Anyway, we'll find out what the real deal is when the Diamond will be officially presented. Which might happen tomorrow, on the 6th of May, as a special event organized by HCT is planned to take place in London.

Among the unconfirmed (but almost certain) features of HTC Touch Diamond, we have a 2.8 inch touchscreen display with a generous 480 x 640 pixel resolution, eGPS (meaning enhanced GPS), Wi-Fi, quad-band HSDPA connectivity for data transfer speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, 4GB of built-in memory, microSD card slot, accelerometer, a powerful 528 MHz processor, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and a 3.2 Megapixel camera with auto focus. All this is packed in a case that measures only 99 x 51 x 10.7 millimeters (3.89 x 2.00 x 0.42 inches).

If the above mentioned features turn out to be true, HTC's Diamond will be a diamond in more ways than we'd expect. Hopefully, we'll see tomorrow the real Diamond, together with the other HTC devices rumored to be presented: the Touch Raphael and the Android-based Dream.
