Next month HTC Thunderbolt will celebrate two years since it's been announced at CES 2011, in Las Vegas.

The smartphone was released in the United States at Verizon Wireless with Android 2.2 Froyo operating system onboard.

Although the Thunderbolt received a Gingerbread upgrade several months later, it's been stuck on this Android version since forever.

HTC promised an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade would be available at some point this year, but the Taiwanese company delayed the update countless times.

However, the folks at HTC Source report the long-awaited Android 4.0 ICS update for the Thunderbolt may be released after all.

According to a tweet by HTC USA, “ICS will be here soon. Thanks for your continued patience!” Even though there is no exact release date available, it is likely that the update will be rolled out next year rather than in the next two weeks.
