Since HTC announced it will upgrade Verizon's Thunderbolt to Ice Cream Sandwich at some point, every update that is not the hotly anticipated Android 4.0 matters less and less for those who are anxiously waiting for the important update.

Dubbed software version 2.11.605.19 710RD, the update is pushed OTA (over the air) as of right now, though the official changelog still appears as “Coming Soon” at Verizon.

Keep in mind that this update leaked last month in the form of a RUU file, so those who already flashed it won't need to do it again.

Hopefully, this will be the last maintenance update before Verizon and HTC decided to start pushing the long awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for HTC Thunderbolt.

Although HTC Thunderbolt was initially launched last year with Android 2.2 Froyo out of the box, the smartphone already received a Gingerbread upgrade and is now expected to get another major update that will bring its firmware to Ice Cream Sandwich.

All in all, the latest software update is around 61MB in size and it will take around 15-20 minutes to download it. An additional 10-20 minutes will be required for the update to install.

Once the update is installed, it will be enabled with the Wireless Alerting System and it will support Cisco Any, which improves the VPN functionality of the smartphone.

According to HTC, the latest update will also improve data connectivity, as well as device stability, which will translate into fewer device resets.

More improvements have been added to the default mail application, which will allow Yahoo! Mail accounts to receive messages properly.

It is also worth mentioning Thunderbolt devices won't be plagued by some bugs that previously affected users' overall experience, as HTC provided some fixes for these issues.

For example, the update resolves all issues with Mobile Hotspot connectivity. In addition, all incoming calls now display the correct state, when applicable.
