Verizon is expected to deploy the update within the next few days

It appears that Verizon Wireless plans to deploy a new maintenance update for the HTC Thunderbolt sometime this week. The carrier already published the update’s change log on its support site, but has yet to announce when exactly it will be available for download.

Obviously, it’s too early to speak about a possible Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the HTC Thunderbolt, especially that Verizon’s handset has been plagued with various bugs that still need to be corrected.

One such bug is fixed in the upcoming software update, but no other important changes have been made except several improvements to the Exchange ActiveSync and to notification volume.

HTC Thunderbolt owners should also expect to get the issue with contact ringtones resolved, along with a few updates to the local streaming playback mechanism when network is not available, as well as the Twitter API for Pee/FriendStream (part of Sense user interface).

In addition, the Clock application has been included in the All App list for easier use. The update will be pushed OTA (over the air) in waves, possibly beginning this week.

Software version 2.11.605.9 is 36MB in size and can be installed manually if it’s not pushed OTA within the next few days. To manually search for the update simply go to Settings / Software update / Check for new software.

In case no new software update is found users are recommended to check back later for the availability of the maintenance update.

The change log of the update is detailed below:

Device Features:

- Resolved issue with contact ringtones;

- Improvements to notification volume;

- Updated local streaming playback mechanism when network connection is not available.

Apps & Widgets:

- Updated Twitter API for Peep/FriendStream;

- Clock app included in All App list;

- Improvements in Exchange ActiveSync.

We will update the info as soon as Verizon starts pushing this maintenance update to all HTC Thunderbolt devices.
