One month after Verizon and HTC decided to deploy the Gingerbread upgrade for HTC Thunderbolt device and then pull it immediately due to a couple of critical bugs, Verizon is rolling out the update again.

Hopefully, Thunderbolt owners will be able to use their smartphones properly after downloading and installing the update.

The old update reportedly had several critical bugs, including a major security vulnerability, a bug with the voicemail notifications, which was basically broken, as well as critical issues with the SMS messages.

The latest software version build number 2.11.605.5, baseband 1.48.00.0906w_1, 0.01.78.0906w_2 is now pushed OTA (over the air), in waves, to all Thunderbolt devices.

According to the update's change log all the problems introduced by the first update have been corrected, but this won't be confirmed until users are actually updating their Thunderbolt devices.

In this regard, the software update is 146 MB in size and will be pushed gradually, which means that users will be notified the moment the update becomes available for their Thunderbolt smartphones.

Besides upgrading the phone's software to version Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the update is said to bring several improvements and new features:

- Alarm notifications will no longer appear while in Emergency Mode; - Improved security features that reduce device vulnerability; - Improved data connectivity; - Improved audio quality while using Bluetooth; - Bluetooth security patch has been included; - Decreased wait time when saving audio attachments; - Basic voicemail notification will now notify when a new voicemail has been received; - V CAST Tones now comes preloaded; - New Google Books app; - Enhanced UI for data roaming; - SMS messages will no longer send to incorrect recipient on rare occasions; - Reduced Force Close errors while using TuneWiki; - Reduced Force Close errors when using the front camera; - Audio on BT Car Kit no longer reroutes to phone when receiving a SMS message.

Obviously, Thunderbolt users can do a manual check for the update, in case they haven't been notified yet.

Feel free to post any comments regarding the stability of your HTC Thunderbolt after installing the update (if you are brave enough to get the update).
