On Thursday, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced officially the launch of a new mobile phone on its airwaves, one that offers support for its newly deployed 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) network, the HTC ThunderBolt.

The new mobile phone was spotted into the wild before, and should become available for purchase on Big Red's 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network soon, the carrier announced, adding that it would complement this feature with the HTC Sense user experience.

Additionally, the new device comes with Skype mobile with video calling integration, a feature that can be used as easily as voice calling is, Verizon says. Skype mobile also includes presence icons that would show the availability status of friends in standard contacts list, and other features more.

Video calling is enabled through the front-facing camera on HTC ThunderBolt, while the large 4.3-inch touchscreen display would offer a clear view of friends and family.

The specifications list of HTC ThunderBolt include the 4.3-inch WVGA display, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, or the Android 2.2 platform with the said HTC Sense user experience on top of it.

The handset also includes Dolby surround sound, 8-megapixel photo snapper with HD video recording capabilities, wireless DLNA, Mobile Hotspot capabilities with support for up to 8 Wi-Fi devices, built-in kickstand for easy media viewing, a 32GB microSD memory card in the package, and more.

“We are proud to not only be bringing one of the first 4G LTE Android smartphones to the Verizon Wireless network, but to offer people the unprecedented speed and ease of use that the HTC ThunderBolt provides to them,” said Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC Americas.

“What makes 4G so compelling is not just technology, but what the technology allows people to do. With HTC ThunderBolt and the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, 4G is brought to life as people stay connected with friends, family and content faster than ever before possible.”

As stated above, the new HTC ThunderBolt should offer support for Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, on which it could deliver download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps.

“Our 4G LTE network and the HTC Sense user experience combine to enable our customers to connect with friends, family and information on a whole new level,” said Marni Walden, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless.

“Customers will see the difference of 4G speeds when accessing content via the Web, Android applications or other Verizon Wireless applications.”
