Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has made significant progress in delivering update to handsets running under its Windows Phone 7 operating system, with the HTC Surround on AT&T's network being the latest phone scheduled to receive new software. The mobile phone was not included in the list of Windows Phone devices that got the latest software update from the company, namely the 7392 update, but things changed now.

Microsoft has just announced that they are currently scheduling the roll-out of this 7392 update for the HTC Surround on AT&T, and that other models will receive the software soon.

These is great news for Surround users, and greater news comes for the owners of a Samsung Focus smartphone on AT&T's airwaves, as the update should arrive on their handsets as well in the not-too-distant future.

There have been a series of issues with the release of this software update for the Samsung Focus, but it seems that Microsoft and its partners have finally managed to find a solution for them.

“We’ve also made progress on getting the remaining Samsung Focus models updated,” Microsoft's Michael Stroh notes in a recent blog post.

“We’ve worked through the last of the technical hurdles with AT&T and Samsung, and are now actively scheduling the final set of tests and the subsequent roll out of updates to Focus handsets with the alternate memory. I don’t have hard dates yet.”

Hopefully, it won't be too long before the software update arrives on Focus units out there, and that the same will happen in the near future for Omnia 7 devices on Orange's airwaves.

The delivery of the update was halted a while ago for this device, and nothing changed so far on the matter, although Microsoft said only recently that they should be able to resolve the situation soon.

“Finally, we’re still working with Orange to resume update deliveries to Omnia 7 phones. I know some of you are frustrated - and I’m sorry about the delay. The team truly thought they were close last week - and are working to close on a schedule,” the said blog post reads.

All in all, it seems that it should not be too long before all of the existing Windows Phone devices receive the already released software updates for the platform, so that we'll start waiting for the next OS upgrade to arrive, namely Windows Phone Mango.
