Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has been long rumored to be working on a handset that will boast WiMAX connectivity and will also run under Google's Android operating system, and it seems that we might see the device launched in about one week from now. According to the latest news around the Internet, Sprint-Nextel CEO Dan Hesse is set to officially announce the new mobile phone at the CTIA 2010.

The device in question has previously emerged around the Internet as the HTC Supersonic, and now reports on it suggest that March 24 would be the date when all of its specifications are officially unveiled to the world. According to a recent article on the Wall Street Journal, Sprint is set to announce the device during its CTIA keynote speech on March 24.

As most of you might know, the mobile phone carrier already unveiled officially plans to launch, during the ongoing year, a device that will boast WiMAX connectivity, and even said that it would release it before summer. While no exact details on the matter emerged, rumors on an HTC device that would fit the description made it into the wild, and the Supersonic seems to be shaping up as the WiMAX phone that we're all waiting to arrive.

Moreover, the news also suggests that the device will include Google's Android operating system when launched, which would make it an even more appealing device to users. Not to mention that the HTC Supersonic is also expected to come with dual-mode WiMAX/EVDO connectivity options, so that users can seamlessly switch between Sprint's 3G network and the 4G airwaves. No details on the exact release date of the mobile phone have been unveiled for the time being, but in case the handset is announced next week, all should be made official at that time, so stay tuned to learn additional info on the matter.
