Today, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced plans to launch the HTC Smart on the Malaysian market. According to the company, Smart, a new type of smartphone aimed at the mass-market, should become available for purchase by the end of April via all authorized resellers, featuring a price tag of RM 799. The HTC Smart will land in three color versions, Black, Pink and White.

The new HTC Smart is powered by Qualcomm's Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP), and offers a new option for users looking for an easy-to-use, connected smartphone. At the same time, the handset's price is meant to make it accessible to a wider range of mobile phone users out there, the company notes, adding that the Brew MP operating system plays an important role in the more aggressively pricing of devices.

“HTC has always focused on listening to customers and setting the stage for new mobile categories and HTC Smart is the response to customer demand around the world for an easier-to-use, affordable smartphone,” said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC Corporation. “Just adding a touch interface doesn’t mean a phone is a smartphone; The enhanced HTC Sense brings an unparalleled smartphone experience for people looking to do more on their phone.”

The new handset sports a friendly compact touch design integrated with the popular HTC Sense user experience. The solution is meant to put people in the center, enabling them to easily customize the phone. Built around three core areas, Make It Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected, Sense provides users with fast connectivity to various social networks, while also offering communication capabilities over the phone, through text messaging or email.

“HTC Smart breaks new ground in delivering the powerful, in-demand smartphone features that consumers want on a more accessible device for global markets,” said Paul Jacobs, chief executive officer, Qualcomm Incorporated. “We are pleased to be supporting HTC as they utilize the capabilities of Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform open operating system to offer high-end capabilities and a compelling mobile user experience at mass-market price points.”
