The handset is said to have topped 1 million reservations in China

One of the most popular mid-range smartphones these days, the HTC Desire 816 is off to a good start in China, as the device was sold out in less than 10 minutes after it went on sale.

According to Gforgames, HTC only put 50k Desire 816 units on sale and they all flew off the shelves in 10 minutes, which means that the smartphone is on high demand in the Mainland.

For those unfamiliar with the subject, HTC Desire 816 topped no less than 1 million reservations in China. Obviously, this doesn’t translate into actual sales especially that the Taiwanese handset maker seems to have been caught unprepared by the strong demand for its Desire 816.

Still, having 1 million people that showed their interest in buying one of your products is no small feat and this is exactly what HTC needed to turn around its catastrophic financial status.

HTC has confirmed that it will bring another batch of HTC Desire 816 units on March 21, though it did not provide any details regarding the number of devices that will be put on sale.

We doubt that the second shipment of Desire 815 smartphones will be able to fulfill the demand for the device in China, but at least a certain number of customers will be lucky enough to grab one.

If HTC’s shipments only consist of 50-100k units of Desire 816, it will take some time until all those who wish to purchase the smartphone will actually be able to do so.

Not to mention that the Desire 816 will be launched in Europe as well in the coming week, which will probably disrupt even more HTC’s capacity to fulfill all pre-orders in China.

For you information, HTC Desire 816 has been released in China this week and it should sell for only 1900 yuan outright, which is about $310 or €220.

Considering the smartphone’s specs, this is a great price, so the fact that Android fans in China are dying to get their hands on one shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Among the most important selling points of the phablet, I should mention the fact that it comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box and that it packs a large 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

In addition, the phablet is powered by a more than decent 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, accompanied by an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit and 1.5GB of RAM.
