HTC Salsa has just been officially introduced in India by the Taiwanese handset manufacturer, though the handset was available for purchase since last week via online retailer Flipkart.

However, it seems that the suggested retail price of the phone is slightly higher than the one offered by the India major retailer.

While HTC India recommends that the prices of the Salsa should be somewhere around Rs. 22,000 (about $490), other online retailers such as Flipkart are selling the smartphone for prices ranging between Rs. 19,000 to 20,000 (about $460).

Although customers who purchased the HTC Salsa from Flipkart had to wait up to 4 business days to receive the item, it seems that they have made the right choice when it comes to price.

HTC has always understood that different people want different things and the new HTC Salsa offers special new ways to socialize through a mobile device,” said Faisal Siddiqui, country manager, HTC India.

Introduced back in February during the 2011 Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, HTC Salsa is one of the two Facebook phones launched by HTC on the market, along with HTC ChaCha.

HTC Salsa comes with an average size 3.4-inch TFT capacitive multi-touch screen with 320 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

The smartphone is equipped with an 800 Mhz Qualcomm processor and runs Google's Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform.

"With Indians increasingly getting hooked on to the social web, we wanted to create the ultimate socially connected phone which makes this experience simple and convenient," added Siddiqui. HTC Salsa packs 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), as well as a 5-megapixel main camera and a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

The phone is powered by a 1520 mAh Li-Ion battery that should provide up to 445 hours of standby time or up to 9 hours of talk time.
