HTC Rhyme is available for purchase in India from various major retailers for quite some time now. Today, the Taiwanese handset manufacturer officially introduced the smartphone in India, but priced it higher than expected.

Even though several retailers already sell the Rhyme for Rs 24,800 (485 USD or 360 EUR), HTC announced recently a higher price for the smartphone.

It looks like HTC thinks that customers who want the Rhyme must shell out no less than Rs 27,499 (535 USD or 400 EUR) in order to get it.

According to the folks over at AndroidOS, the reason behind HTC’s decision is the fact that value of the rupee has drastically dropped and manufacturers are trying to cut their losses by increasing prices on their devices.

HTC Rhyme is a mid-budget smartphone, which is powered by Google’s Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system and HTC Sense 3.5 user interface.

The phone comes with a 3.7-inch Super LCD capacitive touchscreen display that boasts 480 x 800 pixels resolution and 16 million colors support.

The Rhyme is aimed at women and is delivered with several accessories that makes it more appealing to this particular market segment.

Customers who go for this smartphone will find in the sales package an 8GB microSD memory card, a pouch, a docking station and a Charm Indicator.

The device is equipped with a 1 GHz single core processor and packs 4GB storage, 768 MB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

HTC Rhyme represents an entirely new approach, based on recognition that there is a substantial group of consumers who want their phones to be more personal and complimentary to every moment of their day. HTC Rhyme is focused on delivering this through a fresh new style and experience that includes a family of innovative accessories like the HTC Rhyme Charm and Docking Station that are meant to naturally integrate into people’s lives,” said Faisal Siddiqui, Country Manager, HTC India.
