Unveiled back in November, HTC Rezound was introduced at Verizon Wireless two months ago. Currently, the carrier offers the HTC Rezound for $199.99 with a new two-year agreement.

As expected, major retailer Amazon slashed the phone’s price only a month after its official release at Verizon Wireless. Until today, HTC Rezound was available at Amazon for $150 (115 EUR) on a two-year term.

Starting today, Amazon Wireless offers the HTC Rezound for only $79.99 (60 EUR) with a new two-year agreement. The deal is only available for new customers, while existing customers who are eligible for an upgrade or want to add a new line can purchase it for $159.99 (120 EUR).

The smartphone’s suggested retail price is still the same, so customers who want to avoid being tied by a long-term contract will have to shell out no less than $799.99 (605 EUR) upfront.

According to HTC, “the HTC Rezound for Verizon Wireless delivers a powerful entertainment experience with unparalleled audio and multimedia capabilities.”

The smartphone was engineered with exclusive Beats Audio technology and is delivered with Beats Audio earbuds, which are automatically detected by the phone when inserted.

HTC Rezound runs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, but the Taiwanese handset manufacturer confirmed that the smartphone would be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in Q1 2012.

The Rezound provides access to more than 400,000 apps via Android Market and comes pre-loaded with Google’s full suite of apps and services, including Gmail, Google Search, Voice Search, Google Latitude, Gtalk, Google Places and other.

Hardware-wise, the Rezound is a beast among Android smartphones. The superphone is equipped with a 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 220 GPU.

It also packs 16GB onboard memory, 1GB of RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 16GB memory card included), as well as an 8-megapixel rear photo snapper.
