It appears that a factory reset is not needed to fix the problem

HTC Rezound users are affected by an annoying issue that gets their smartphones stuck in boot loop without notice. For the time being, there’s no telling if all HTC Rezound units are affected by this issue or just certain stocks that have been making their way into shelves.

What’s certain is the fact that, once the device starts boot looping, it will continue to have this problem even after a factory reset. Until recently, the only solution was to ask Verizon for a replacement and hope they will change it with a good one or with another brand.

Fortunately, an HTC Rezound owner figured out what’s wrong with his device and it looks like the solution he came with is available for all units affected by this boot looping issue.

User ThaSurgeonGeneral posted the solution on DroidForums and further explains how you can fix the problem:

"*#*#4636#*#* Under phone info you will find that the network is factory set to WCDMA preferred. I guess the SIM card decides sometime along the way that it doesn't like that much... Setting the network to CDMA EVDO/LTE - Auto completely corrects the problem and the phone is humming along once again."

Some HTC Rezound owners may need to hit Home, power off the smartphone, pull the SIM card out, put it back in, and then reset it, in order for the fix to work. However, this might not be required for most HTC Rezound users.

There’s also an application that automatically does the necessary changes in the phone’s settings, if you feel unsure about doing this manually.

The application is called LTE Switch and is available as a free download from Android Market. It will simply toggle the 4G LTE connection OFF or ON, but also offers additional options as shown in the screenshot.
