It looks like HTC and Verizon continue to work well together, which is probably one of the reasons the Taiwanese handset maker decided to offer the carrier its first smartphone powered by Windows Phone 8.1.

Codenamed HTC W8#WL, the smartphone has been recently tipped by @evleaks, which means that the device actually exists, though we don't know its status yet.

No pictures or details on its specs have been leaked yet, but we suspect that when the time comes more info will emerge online.

The first Windows Phone 8.1 handset to go on sale is the Nokia Lumia 630. The smartphone is expected to hit shelves early next week in a handful of countries in Asia.

Besides Nokia, no other handset maker announced new smartphones powered by Windows Phone 8.1, so HTC would be among the first to add to the very short list.

It's unclear whether or not the leaked HTC W8#WL will be exclusively available in the United States through Verizon Wireless, but Windows Phone fans surely hope this won't happen.

Microsoft is expected to launch its Lumia smartphones powered by Windows Phone 8.1 in United States in the coming months, so HTC will have a fierce competition in this market. Stay tuned for more on this one.
