Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC announced recently the release of a new ROM upgrade for the HTC Touch Diamond2 handsets available on T-Mobile UK's airwaves. The most appealing feature brought by the new software solution is the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system from Microsoft, which also includes access to a series of services put in place for the platform.

The new software update comes along as ROM version: 2.13.110.3, and users will have to make sure that the solution is newer than the one already available on the device. To do so, one should click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, where the info on ROM version, CPU, and Radio version are available.

The new ROM upgrade comes with the following improvements:
- HTC phones featuring Windows 6.5 are designed to handle your daily life, with only one consideration: You.
- You can customize with programs, ringtones, TouchFLO 3D options, and more.
- Connect with the people you care about most using Windows Live, Facebook and other chat clients available for download.
- Backing up with Microsoft My Phone is as easy as typing in a username and password and selecting what you want to back up. Everything else is automatic. You can even let it run in the background while you surf the net, chat with friends, or have it just resting in your pocket while you relax on the couch.
- All this and increased convenience with a one stop shop for applications available for free and for download in the brand new Marketplace.

Those willing to perform the upgrade should also take into consideration a backup of all data before proceeding. The installation process will erase all files on the phone, and important files might be lost in the process. Users will also have to connect the device to a Windows PC, download the ROM and install it. ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center are needed on the PC for the installation process. All the necessary details on the upgrade, as well as the downloadable ROM, are available on HTC's website here.

Wow, what an improvement. I've only had it installed for a couple of days but I am impressed. My phone was getting ridiculously slow, and I was having to re-boot it regularly. The internet access was so slow I stopped using it. There were a lot of annoying things which made the operating system very unfriendly with the previous ROM.
Now the phone is a pleasure to use, quick again, internet access is blistering, the diary has an agenda function which is great so now I can see all my appointments for the upcoming week without having to scroll through day by day.
My battery life appears to be better too.
