Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just made available for download new software solutions for two of its Windows Mobile-based handsets that can be purchased in the UK via T-Mobile, namely the HTC HD2 and Touch2. The new solutions come as ROM upgrades for both handsets, namely as ROM Version:1.43.110.2 for HTC HD2 and ROM Version:1.33.110.2 for the HTC Touch2.

“Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software. To check what version is installed on your device, click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, and note the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version,” HTC notes on its support page.

At the same time, the handset vendor states that the update comes as a generic one, and that any applications or settings the wireless carrier has put on the device will be lost. Moreover, it should also be noted that the update will erase all data on the device, which means that those willing to download and install the new ROM updates should first backup all personal files, contacts, messages and the like from their handset, just to make sure that no important information is lost.

The update can be performed via a Windows-based PC, and users will have to install a software solution on their computer for the installation, namely ActiveSync in case the PC runs under Windows XP, or Windows Mobile Device Center in case it is powered by Windows Vista. Users will also have to close all applications running on the device, and to make sure that the battery level is at least at 50 percent. The entire installation process is expected to take around 30 minutes to complete, and one should not interrupt the process, the handset vendor further notes.

The ROM Version:1.43.110.2 for HTC HD2 can be downloaded from HTC's website from here, while the ROM Version:1.33.110.2 for the HTC Touch2 is available here. All the necessary info on the installation process are also available on HTC's website.

It's just a shame that the 'update' for the HD2 is not an update at all - it appears to be the same version that's already installed on the handset, leaving the users with all the bugs they had when they bought the device!

Legitimate HTC device owners (it's debatable why T-Mo HD2 users aren't in this category!), are all on a much later version, which supposedly works well!
