Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has made available for download a new software update for one of the mobile phones it released on the market during the last year with Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system on board, namely the HTC Touch2.

Available only for Touch2 handsets on Orange's network, the new software is being delivered as a ROM upgrade, with different versions for the various markets it is released to.

According to a recent post on HTC's support website, the ROM upgrade would sport the following version numbers when installed: Switzerland_German: 1.37.72.1, Spanish: 1.37.75.1, English: 1.37.70.1 French: 1.37.73.4, Switzerland_French: 1.37.71.1.

Unfortunately, the leading handset vendor does not offer specific info on what the new upgrade would include.

“An updated ROM is now available for HTC Touch2 (Orange) users to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience,” is what the company notes on the new update.

Those users interested in downloading and installing the new software update should first check whether the software on their devices is an older version.

To do so, they would have to go to Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, where they would find the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version.

“Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software,” the company notes.

The solution is being delivered as a generic update, HTC notes, adding that it would erase any specific settings the wireless carrier might have included with the device.

At the same time, it notes that the software update would erase all data on the mobile phone, which means that users should perform a backup before proceeding with the installation.

The updated ROM is available for download from HTC's website here. All the necessary info on the installation process can be found there as well.
