A new software update is now available for customers of O2 in the UK or Germany who own a HTC HD2 smartphone, the Taiwanese mobile phone maker announced via its support website.

According to the company, the new software arrives on as ROM Version 3.14.206.1 for O2 UK users and as ROM Version 3.14.207.1 for O2 Germany customers.

“An updated ROM is now available for HTC HD2 (O2) users to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience,” the company notes on its website.

“Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently installed on your device. If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software,” HTC continues.

In order to check for the software version on the device, one would have to click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, where the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version can be found.

Before proceeding with the downloading and installation of this software, users should note that the ROM arrives as a generic update, and that any specific settings provided by the carrier will be lost in the process.

“Please note that this upgrade will erase any data stored on the device. Once you proceed with the upgrade, the system cannot be downgraded again. Please back up your data first before upgrading your device,” the company notes.

Before starting the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU), users should make sure their handset is connected to a Windows computer via the USB cable included in the package, and that all applications on the smartphone were closed.

The entire installation process should be completed in about 30 minutes. Additional info on the update can be found on HTC's website here. The ROM upgrade is available on the same support page.
