Last week, HTC unveiled to the world its latest Android-based flagship device, in the form of HTC One M8, which has already landed on shelves in various countries, and which is also available for order as a Google Play Edition.

Today, the kernel source code for this device variant was spotted on the HTCDev website and is currently available for download for all those interested in having a closer look at it.

Two different files are up for grabs through the aforementioned portal, as one of them is featuring Framework Support Files.

HTC One M8 was made official with Google’s Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system loaded on top, as well as with HTC’s own user interface, namely Sense 6.0.

The Google Play Edition phone, however, does not provide users with a taste of Sense 6.0, aiming instead at delivering an experience as close to the pure Android one as possible.

At the same time, this phone model is expected to come with an unlocked bootloader, which should provide users with the possibility to easily load custom ROMs on it.

The smartphone will be sold through the Google Play store, the same as other similar phones, and can already be reserved through the portal at $699 (€508). However, no specific info on when it starts shipping has been provided as of now.
