Mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just announced the release of a new software update for its Windows Mobile-based HTC HD2 smartphone, in the form of a ROM upgrade for all units available on T-Mobile's airwaves in Croatia and Poland. According to the handset vendor the new update was meant only for the owners of a HTC HD2 at T-Mobile in these countries, and should not be installed on handsets in other markets.

“An updated ROM is now available for HTC HD2 (T-Mobile) users to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience,” the company notes.

“This update is not intended for use on T-Mobile(US) HTC HD2, and doing so may have undesired side effects,” HTC continues.

The company also announced that the software update will arrive in Croatia as ROM version 3.14.119.1, while hitting Poland as version 3.14.118.1.

Those who would like to download and install it on their handsets should first make sure that this software upgrade is a newer version that the one they are already running.

In order to check the software version on their handsets, users would need to click Start > Settings > System tab > Device Information > Version tab, where they would find the ROM version, CPU, and Radio version.

HTC also notes that this is only a generic software update, and that any software or settings provided by the mobile operator might be lost following the installation.

“Please note that this upgrade will erase any data stored on the device. Once you proceed with the upgrade, the system cannot be downgraded again,” HTC notes. Users should back up all data on their handsets prior to installing the new ROM.

Additional info on what users should pay attention to before running the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU) can be found on HTC's support website. The new ROM update for HD2 is available for download from the company's support page here.
