Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is expected to bring to the market in the near future its first smartphone to include a dual-core application processor, and rumor has it that this device would be the HTC Pyramid.

Apparently, HTC would have the new mobile phone powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor (supposedly MSM8260, which was showcased at CES in early January), so that it would be able to offer more performance than what other devices do.

Moreover, the company might pack the upcoming device with a 4.3-inch touchscreen display that boasts a qHD resolution (960 x 540 pixels), and support for HSPA+ networks.

Rumor has it that the available connectivity options within the new HTC Pyramid would make it suitable for T-Mobile USA's recently upgraded network.

No official confirmation on this handset's arrival on the market emerged for the time being, nor on the possibility that it would be launched on T-Mobile USA's airwaves, but two different sources, TmoNews and Android and Me, report the same thing, namely that Magenta would indeed be picking it up.

It seems that the wireless carrier might have plans to make the new smartphone available for purchase for its customers sometime in May or June, though the official unveiling might take place sooner than that.

Unfortunately, other specifications of the new mobile phone lack at the moment, and no photos with it were made available either. No info on its operating system emerged, but Android could be a safe bet.

However, T-Mobile and HTC might be set to make the upcoming HTC Pyramid official at the 2011 Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona in a few weeks, though this is mere speculation for the time being.

With a range of dual-core mobile phones already announced for the US market for AT&T and Verizon, it was only a matter of time before other carriers there would also consider the launch of such handsets, and it seems that T-Mobile is ramping up for making the move.
