On Sunday, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has announced that it would start rolling-out software updates for its latest flagship Android-based device as soon as next month, in an attempt to provide users with increased access to handset's features by unlocking its bootloader.

The handset vendor promised to unlock the bootloader on this smartphone, none other than the HTC Sensation, ever since the phone landed on the market, as users complained about its lack of openness.

At the moment, things are looking more than great for the company's users, as the testing HTC conducted proved successful, and the unlocking of Sensation is only one month away.

“We’re thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint,” the company announced via Facebook.

“We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates,” the company continues.

Moreover, HTC notes that it plans on unlocking the bootloaders in other mobile phones it already made available on shelves.

“We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments,” the handset vendor announced.

Previously, HTC was delivering handsets on the market with locked bootloaders, so as to prevent users from loading unofficial ROMs on their devices.

However, the community was not happy with this approach, and HTC decided to change its policy towards bootloaders so as to make their handsets more appealing to end-users.

Other leading mobile phone makers out there made similar moves, including Motorola and Samsung, though the former is yet expected to start shipping handsets with unlocked bootloaders.

“HTC continues its commitment to unlocking bootloaders and supporting the developer community,” the smartphone designer announced. Additional info on the matter will emerge as the release date approaches.
